Making Magic Without the Meltdowns
For Maddie, it was her very first time stepping into Disneyland. For Michael, it felt like coming home, he had been many times before and even had an annual pass during college.
Seeing it all through Maddie’s eyes made the experience even more special. It wasn’t about rushing to every ride or snapping perfect Instagram photos. It was about holding hands in the middle of Main Street, laughing over Mickey-shaped snacks, and finding joy in the little things.
It was also our first time exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and seeing all the incredible updates Disney has made over the years. We packed our day with as much as we could in the Disneyland Park and even had time to revisit a few favorites. The magic felt endless, and the experience was more than we imagined.
Disneyland can be overwhelming, especially for first-timers or anyone trying to do it all in one day. But with the right mindset (and a few helpful tricks), it can be one of the most fun, romantic, and joy-filled experiences you share together.
Here are our top tips for making the most of Disneyland as a couple.

1. Go in With a Game Plan, but Keep It Light
We recommend knowing the top 3 rides or shows you really want to do together, but letting the rest of the day unfold naturally. Overplanning can lead to stress, especially when wait times or crowds throw things off.
Our favorites: Rise of the Resistance, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the nighttime castle show.

2. Prioritize Snacks Over Sit-Down Meals
There’s something playful and fun about walking around and sharing snacks instead of sitting for a full meal. We split churros, Dole Whip, popcorn, and Mickey beignets.
It gave us more time to explore and less time checking reservations.

3. Use the App (But Don’t Be Glued to It)
The Disneyland app is super helpful for checking wait times, mobile ordering, and maps. But we made a point to not stare at our phones the whole time. Some of the best moments came when we put it away and just wandered.

4. Embrace the Cheesy Moments
Matching shirts? A castle selfie? Getting emotional on Peter Pan’s Flight? We say go for it. Disney is the perfect place to lean into joy without worrying what anyone else thinks.
We danced in line. We took silly photos. We sang along to the music. And we loved every second of it.

5. Take a Break (Seriously)
Whether it’s heading back to your hotel mid-day or just sitting on a bench with a cold drink, giving yourselves space to rest makes a huge difference. It keeps energy up and prevents little irritations from becoming big ones.
Bonus tip: Hop on the train around the park if your feet need a break but you still want to see the sights.
Final Thoughts
Disneyland as a couple isn’t just about rides. It’s about connection, slowing down, and letting yourself be kids again for a day. The memories we made weren’t just about what we did, but how we felt. Light. Happy. Present.
If you’re thinking about going together, we say yes. Pack your sunscreen, wear comfy shoes, and get ready for some magic.
Maybe next time we’ll explore California Adventure Park too.
